About

Hi there, friend!

Welcome to Blue Skies & Grit. I'm Maria - a writer and artist who's following her heart's desires.

The makings of a good day is chatting with farmers, hanging with cows, chasing the sun and using my creativity.

I started a passion project in the summer of 2021, where I interview farmers and highlight their work through stories and photos. Agriculture is vital to our well-being, and learning about it first-hand from those who make it happen is really special.

When I'm not dancing through pastures, I create beauty with my hands. I've been a painter since childhood, and love to go shelling.

In the fall of 2022, Hurricane Ian hit my beloved shelling spot, Sanibel Island. I wanted to help, so I started making seashell art. 5% of revenue from all shell art sold will be donated to Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation.

I'm a storyteller at heart, whether it's through my shell art, paintings or written work.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications,
with a Minor degree in Studio Art from Hood College.

Annapolis, Maryland is home, alongside my husband and two teenage children. We love being outdoors and seeing where the road takes us next.

What's in a name?

Blue Skies & Grit is the belief that all is well,
and that we have courage to face whatever comes at us.

Hopeful, while putting in the work.

So glad you're here!
