One year ago, I started writing short personal stories on my blog. It's a rather vulnerable spot for me; I prefer to keep my life buttoned up and private.
But God...
He continues to put it on my heart, so I lean in. Sweaty hands, pounding heart; I listen to His guidance.
And I'm so glad that I do. The connection that I receive from each of you makes this awkward gal's nerves sooth right down. You, my dear reader, are a blessing to me. I hope you know that. I write to encourage you, and it boomerangs right back to me. How lovely!
I got to spend time with my Aunt this weekend - my one and only. It was a hug for my soul. Before I left, she gifted me a book of her poetry. She's been a writer for years. My mother has a copy, but I wanted one just for me.
As I nestled in at home, I cracked open her book. One of the first pages I found was a poem on Thanksgiving. I thought it was fitting to share it here with you!
Thanksgiving Prayer
Lord we gather as a family today,
To thank you for blessings you've sent our way.
Blessings of health of body and mind.
Blessings of wealth of a different kind.
Not the coin or fortune of worldly gold,
But the wealth of love a family can hold.
Blessings of children for us to love,
Given into our care by you above.
Blessings of a shelter over us.
Sharing that abode with people we trust.
Blessings of food always on the table
And let us share this as we are able.
The freedom of worshipping where we please,
And the right to go to God on our knees,
With reverence to praise him and adore.
All these things, Lord, we are thankful for.
And so on this wonderful Thanksgiving Day,
Hear us, dear Father, as your children pray.
