Cherry Pickin' My Way Through Life

Lil' Miss and I did some baking the other week.

It's cherry season - my favorite time of year! And I feel inspired to start a "Fresh from the Kitchen" series this summer.

Storytelling + Summer Recipe = Good Times

Okay with you?

Great! Let's roll...

We got an abundant amount of organic cherries the other week from a farm in Pennsylvania. They were little gems of bittersweet goodness. We had so many, that a galette was needed.

Hand selecting our ingredients one-by-one, my daughter and I whipped up something special. I'll share the recipe we created, as well as the original link below.

We combed through the cherries, snacking and chatting. Most of the fruit was plump, ripe and perfect for our dessert. But there were a few that didn't make the cut.

This dessert was special. Only the best made it in.

I read the directions as my daughter started the assembly.

The wooden countertop welcomed the dough like an old friend. She placed the summer's bounty gently in the middle, and began to fold.

And then I realized half way through our baking, that we were cherry pickin' our cherry dessert.

We were intentional. And selective. We wanted the best.

Friend, I'm here to remind you that YOU deserve the best.

You really do!

Don't settle.

Cherry pickin' is my personal approach to living a more fulfilling and optimistic life.

Give it a try. Focus on the best of what life has to offer.

Because you know what happens when you focus on those sweet, lovely gooey bits of life? They get sweeter, and sweeter, and...

Lil' Miss styled and took these last photos. Great job kiddo!

Here's the original recipe from Jovial Foods:

We did a few swaps:

- yogurt for butter

- cinnamon for nutmeg

- cherries for peaches

- maple syrup for sugar

It's cherry season, y'all! Enjoy!
