Disco Ball O'clock

Since my daughter, Li'l Miss, was a wee bitty thing, she would rearrange her bedroom furniture. The moment she realized her dresser could be moved, she shoved that sucker across our hardwoods.

I would cringe, gasp, and admire her determination. To this day, she switches up her bedroom layout every other week. No joke. She finds it therapeutic.

For years I would encourage her, thinking it was a creative outlet.

Until the takeover happened.

That child - I tell you - got a little too cozy rearranging our household.

It started with her deciding that she was in charge of decorating for Christmas some years ago. Li'l Miss is a "more is more" type gal, which is not quite how I do things.

Then it escalated into her moving the sofa when I wasn't home. She would rearrange the entire layout of our main space, and make sure I was fully aware that her design made more sense.

Bless that child.

I've come to terms that I'm raising a strong-willed gal. So it wasn't a shock when she relocated a new-found object of mine.

I recently bought a $5 disco ball after seeing someone display theirs in a chic way.

Yes, a disco ball can be chic. I was surprised too!

I perched that mirrored object on my side table where the afternoon sun would give it a little peck.

It wasn't there for a week, and Li'l Miss moved it.

And I'm so glad she did!

That li'l ball of fun didn't get to show off it's full potential where I initially had it. Now it throws a party every afternoon in our living area.

I'm all about aesthetics. I love beauty. But there comes a time where you have to push that aside to truly appreciate a situation.

Let me tell ya, I smile and shimmy under that light nearly every day.

And the disco ball love seems to travel with us.

We were in South Carolina this summer visiting this cool vibin' surf shop. It's one of my favorites in the area. As we were headed out, a flicker of light caught my attention. The sales clerk behind us said, "It's disco time!"

I spun to face her, and she offered a wide grin.

We both looked up, and there it was. That familiar twinkle.

My heart fluttered as I stood in awe.

I told you - this place is a vibe. And their disco ball rotates.

I need to up my game!

Friend, I hope you can find some light in your day. Even just a glimmer.

If not, go get you a $5 disco ball.

Life is worth celebrating. YOU are worth celebrating.
